4 Elements of a Legendary Marriage Part 2—The Partnership

We are dedicating this month to designing our relationships with our spouses. Lance Salazar cofounder of Legendary Couples and coauthor of The Miracle Morning for Couples is back for Part 2 of  this series. He has broken down the 4 Elements of a Legendary Marriage as:

  1. The Individual
  2. The Partnership
  3. Becoming Friends
  4. Becoming Lovers

Last week, we talked about putting marriage aside and developing ourselves as individuals first. This week we focus on the partnership, which includes opening up a dialogue about goals, roles, finances, and parenting.

The Partnership

The partnership aspect is about working as a team. It’s about focusing on each other’s strengths instead of weaknesses. What are you good at? What do you actually like to do? What is your spouse better at? What does she enjoy? Assign tasks accordingly. There is no need to argue when each partner knows what they are responsible for.

In a partnership, it is also important to define shared core values for the family and develop a “being” statement. Then a family can decide how they will put those values into action. Each member knows why they must do their part and how it fits into the bigger picture of family goals.

What is your money mindset as a couple? Once core values and goals are identified, planning finances is easier.

Finally, when it comes to parenting, Lance Salazar says if you’re not talking about it, you’re fighting about it. A couple must agree on how they will discipline their kids. He also suggests having a family meeting once a week to go over everyone schedules. This helps eliminate surprises, confusion, and unnecessary stress.

“Coming together is the beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.”—Henry Ford
